Anna, TX — Days after the Spurlock family confirmed that Spurlock’s Malt Shop would close its doors on November 1, the Anna community has begun rallying to keep the beloved institution alive. A GiveSendGo fundraiser, titled “Save Spurlock’s Malt Shop in Anna TX,” has been launched to help owners Mike and Kristi Spurlock Perez relocate and reopen the iconic eatery elsewhere in town.
For 74 years, Spurlock’s — originally founded by Gilbert Spurlock in 1951 — has been more than just a restaurant. Known for its hand-spun malts, Super Dogs, and hometown atmosphere, it has served as a gathering spot for generations of Anna residents, holding a unique place in the city’s history and heart.
“For 74 incredible years, Spurlock’s Malt Shop (formerly The Malt Shop) has been more than just a restaurant; it’s been the heart of our community in Anna,” the fundraiser reads. “It’s a place where memories are made, friendships are forged, and traditions are kept alive.”
The closure follows the sale of the property at 504 N. Powell Parkway, where Spurlock’s has operated since 1959. The new ownership of the building, according to the family, has left them without a lease and limited time to secure a new location.

The fundraiser, organized through GiveSendGo, aims to raise enough money to cover relocation costs — including a new lease, renovations, and necessary equipment updates. The post emphasizes that 100% of the funds will go directly to helping Spurlock’s find a new home and continue its decades-long tradition of community connection.
“Every dollar raised will go directly towards securing a new location and ensuring that this piece of our history and community continues to thrive,” the campaign states.
In a heartfelt follow-up post, Kristi Perez also shared that the first $3,000 raised will go toward supporting employees who will lose their jobs when the Malt Shop closes, helping them bridge the gap as they search for new opportunities.
As of the time of writing, the campaign has raised $445, with donations steadily growing as residents share their support across social media.

The Spurlock family expressed their gratitude to the community for its outpouring of love, saying they continue to hold faith that a way forward will be found.
“We trust God completely, and we know He will provide a way for us and bless our staff with new opportunities before the holidays,” the family wrote. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, your support, your shares, and most of all — your prayers.”
