Anna, TX — The undefeated Anna Coyotes returned to Coyote Stadium Friday night following their bye week, defeating the Denison Yellow Jackets 41–24 and officially securing a berth in the Class 5A Division II playoffs.

The victory improves Anna to 8–0 overall and 6–0 in District 4-5A Division II play, guaranteeing the Coyotes a place in the postseason with two district games remaining.

However, Friday’s 17-point victory was considerably closer than the final score might suggest.

Denison led Anna at halftime and again late in the third quarter, forcing the Coyotes to overcome multiple deficits before a dominant fourth-quarter performance put the game out of reach.

Denison Challenges the Undefeated Coyotes

Anna opened the evening with a three-yard rushing touchdown from #1 Juelz Carter, followed by a successful extra point from #82 Desmar Marroquin.

Denison responded with a 52-yard touchdown run from #23 Rashaun Dehorney, eventually taking an 8–7 lead.

The Coyotes regained the advantage in the second quarter when quarterback #17 Zephyr Kreye connected with #16 Christian Adams for a seven-yard touchdown pass. Marroquin’s extra point put Anna ahead 14–8.

The Yellow Jackets refused to go away.

Another Denison rushing touchdown late in the second quarter gave the visitors a 15–14 halftime lead, leaving the undefeated Coyotes trailing as they entered the locker room.

Anna responded immediately after halftime.

Carter broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run on the Coyotes’ opening possession of the third quarter, restoring Anna’s advantage at 21–15.

Denison answered with a passing touchdown, but a missed extra point left the contest tied at 21.

The Yellow Jackets then moved into Anna territory and converted a field goal, taking a 24–21 lead late in the third quarter.

It would be Denison’s final lead of the evening.

Twenty Unanswered Points Secure the Victory

Kreye answered Denison’s field goal with a five-yard rushing touchdown, putting Anna back in front 28–24 entering the fourth quarter.

The Coyotes’ defense subsequently tightened, preventing the Yellow Jackets from adding to their total.

With approximately seven minutes remaining, Anna faced second down at its own 20-yard line when Kreye connected with #3 Brayden “Brayy” Spinks for an 80-yard touchdown pass.

The play extended Anna’s lead to 35–24, giving the Coyotes their first double-digit advantage of the evening.

Defensively, #7 Basit Adeseun recorded his second sack of the night on Denison’s ensuing possession, helping force another punt.

Carter delivered the final blow with a 64-yard rushing touchdown in the closing minutes, his third score of the evening extending Anna’s advantage to 41–24.

Denison’s final possession ended on downs, sealing the Coyotes’ eighth consecutive victory.

Carter finished with three rushing touchdowns, while Kreye accounted for three more scores through two touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.

Adeseun and #25 Marvel Essien combined for three sacks as Anna held Denison scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Anna Mathematically Secures Postseason Appearance

Friday’s victory officially moves Anna beyond the uncertainty of the district’s playoff race.

The Coyotes now hold six district victories, meaning their worst possible final district record is 6–2.

With four playoff positions available in District 4-5A Division II, Anna can no longer finish outside the top four based on district records, regardless of the results of its final two games.

The Anna Progress conducted an exhaustive calculation of the remaining district schedule, examining every possible combination of wins and losses.

Using the last established district standings, updated for Anna’s victory over Denison, the calculation includes 2,048 possible combinations across 11 games whose outcomes have not been incorporated.

Anna qualifies for the postseason in all 2,048 combinations.

The Coyotes are therefore mathematically guaranteed a playoff berth, rather than merely favored to reach the postseason.

District Playoff Race Remains Competitive

Although Anna has secured its postseason appearance, the remaining playoff positions are still contested.

Frisco and Celina entered the latest established standings tied at 4–1 in district play, with Frisco holding the head-to-head advantage following its October 16 victory over the Bobcats.

Panther Creek, Emerson and Richland remain among the teams competing for postseason positioning, while Frisco Memorial and Denison face considerably narrower paths.

Independence has been eliminated from playoff contention by district record.

The exhaustive calculations also illustrate how closely contested the middle of the district remains. Many remaining combinations produce ties at the fourth-place cutoff, where official district tiebreaking procedures would determine which team advances.

These calculations represent the share of possible outcomes, not predictions of which teams are most likely to win their remaining games.

Celina Awaits in Rivalry Matchup

Anna will now turn its attention toward a road matchup against the Celina Bobcats on Friday, October 30.

The game carries significant implications for district positioning, particularly following Celina’s loss to Frisco.

The Coyotes will then return home to face Prosper Richland on Thursday, November 5, concluding their regular-season schedule.

Anna has already accomplished one of its primary objectives by securing a postseason appearance.

Now, with an undefeated season and the district championship race still in play, the Coyotes have two regular-season games remaining to determine just how far their perfect record will carry them.
