A local non-profit organization is making a difference, one voter registration at a time. North Texas Votes is a nonpartisan organization that goes out into the community and equips people with the means to register to vote. North Texas Vote has submitted over 10,000 forms to counties on behalf of voters.
The mission of North Texas Votes is to provide opportunities for college students and underrepresented communities to register to vote, have information about upcoming elections, and to encourage people to vote in every election. Volunteers station themselves throughout the area with forms in hand, ready to assist anyone who may need to register to vote for the first time or update information.
North Texas Votes is strictly nonpartisan. The goal is not to encourage people to vote for one particular party or candidate, but rather to become engaged in the democratic system – to ensure that their voices are heard. Volunteers do not comment on politics in this role, and even the colors used for logos are not commonly used for a political party.

According to the website, North Texas Votes is “committed to eliminating barriers to the ballot, fostering civic confidence, and cultivating a culture of lifelong voter engagement.” Through the work of leadership, volunteers set up at public areas with high traffic: tax offices, college campuses, libraries, etc.
Bonnie Moore is the Board President and cofounder of North Texas Votes. “I have been doing voter registration at UNT Denton for the last ten years,” Moore said. “I created #UNTVotes five years ago. Last October (fellow cofounder) Brant Beland called me and we decided it was time to create an organization that allowed Volunteer Deputy Registrars to have one organization that scheduled, provided supplies and education, as well as helped deliver forms.”
Within two weeks Moore had filed the necessary paperwork for North Texas Votes to be an official 504(3)(c.) “We are strictly nonpartisan and nonprofit,” Moore said. “We do not talk politics or religion. We believe every U.S. citizen 18 and over has the right to register and vote.”

Elections in Texas are run by county. This means that every time someone moves from one county to another, a new registration is required. Additionally, an updated registration is required if someone has a name or address change. The forms are not long or difficult to complete, however each portion of the form must be completed for the voter to be eligible to vote. Volunteers support potential voters by ensuring that the form is complete, ready for the county election office.
Aside from ensuring that the forms are complete, volunteers return the forms to the appropriate county election office within five days. This is Texas law and all volunteers must comply with this to be able to continue to register voters. North Texas Votes allows volunteers to turn in forms and simplify the process of returning forms to the various counties.
Since the formation in October 2025, over five hundred volunteers have joined North Texas Votes. Volunteers work together in groups of two or more, often with several different events on the same day. For example, according to the website, on September 26 there are eight large events at which volunteers will be present.
